Are you very very current with all your DB2 maintenance? And on DB2 V10 NFM. If so, then you can try 4.1. There are fixes for DB2 V10 that must be applied or it will NOT work.

(PTF UK91146for DataStudio V4.1.0.0 ) I've just started playing with it. So far I have mixed feelings about it. I crashed our db2 test lpar when I first ran 4.1!!! I found a HIPER that fixed the problem and then I could work with it. At the moment I am staying down level for now! Roy Boxwell SOFTWARE ENGINEERING GmbH and SEGUS Inc. -Product Development- Robert-Stolz-Stra?e 5 40470 D?sseldorf/Germany Tel.

I've just started using DS 4.1 with LUW 10.1 and I have a question regarding Visual Explain and how it compares to DS 3.2.

Let me start by saying while I like some of what they did in 4.1, I think they also messed up a bunch of things usability wise. 1) In 3.1 there was an option to export the VE diagram and data and reimport it (basically it saved it all as an XML file). I don't see a similar option in 4.1. You can save it as a picture (useless) or as HTML (DS now uses a browser to show & manipulate the access path). However, when you open that HTML file, it can't be manipulated the way it could originally. Has anyone found a useful way to save it?

Thanks, Phil J. Joe, I have not used the VE feature in Data Studio for a number of years. I do, however, use the Query Tuner Workflow Assistant in Data Studio 4.1 for both DB2 for z/OS and DB2 for LUW. When I do the save to an XML file is in the top left corner of the diagram. You may want to drift away from using Visual Explain as I do not believe they are enhancing it at all and QTWA is the way to go.

Simply right click on your database and choose 'Start Tuning'. You can also pick 'Start Tuning' over 'Open Visual Explain' when you right click in a SQL script window.
