I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on my (Santa Rosa) Macbook Pro running Tiger (10.4.11) using the Boot Camp 1.4 Beta. Boot Camp Assistant runs fine. It prompts me to insert my WinXP CD, and then reboots.

Lg Intellowasher 7kg Manual Oe here. After the reboot, the machine displays a grey screen for several minutes, then spits out the XP CD before finally announcing (on a black screen): 'No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key' Not even OSX will boot automatically after this: the only way to restore the machine seems to be to hold option on startup and select the OSX volume, then use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows partition. I've successfully installed XP from the same CD in a VMware Fusion VM, so I'm pretty sure it works ok. Has anybody seen (& solved!) a similar issue before?

Apple has released Boot Camp 1.3 beta, an updated version of the software that enables Intel-based Macs to run Windows. It’s available for download from Apple’s. Attention folks who like a little Windows with their Macs, Apple has just updated the Boot Camp beta to 1.4. Boot Camp, you will recall, is Apple's utility.

I'm aware that the Boot Camp beta programme ended with the release of Leopard. Surely this hasn't disabled existing beta installations, though? Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

I've successfully installed XP from the same CD in a VMware Fusion VM, so I'm pretty sure it works ok. Click to expand. It's not that: I've seen this, I know what's caused it, and I've fixed it. There's an earlier post by me that explains this in detail, but basically it's down to the way Boot Camp fails to format the Windows partition in a format that Windows likes, and Windows/Boot Camp for some reason not prompting you to format the partition as FAT32/NTFS during the install as it normally would. This is probably caused by your XP disk having a winnt.sif (or unattended install) file that automates the installation. Making a disk image, editing it, and burning it to CD again is a pain in the arse, so I'd recommend the following: 1) Run the boot camp assistant once to create your windows partition - you've already done this I assume 2) download FreeDOS boot cd.iso and burn the image to a CD-R using disk utility. Boot off this, follow the fairly obvious prompts (don't use the cursor keys as for some reason it hangs it, use the number keys to select menu items) and format the Windows partition ('C drive') as FAT32. 3) Once this has completed, stick the XP SP2 cd in the drive, reboot the MBP and hold down option.
